I don't really like the way that this piece came out. I wish that I used water colors or some kind of paint to make the color on the bird instead of having streaks. However, I really liked learning about John James Audubon's life and art. I always think its interesting to learn about someone's life and then see what they create.

My approach to the self portrait was a little different. I wanted to do something more colorful and creative, and even though it definitely didn't come out the way I had hoped that it would, I'm glad that I experimented and tried.
Even though it is really boring and time consuming, I think practicing sketching is an important thing to do. This time was much different than when we did it in art 1 because I was alone and I really had to focus and keep myself motivated to finish the whole thing.
Since a lot of Unit 1 is based on shading and sketching, I drew a skull and then shaded it in. It took a long time for me to finish but I really like the outcome. I used what I learned from the shaded sphere videos to shade the skull's head. I chose to draw a skull because I think I want to base my concentration on something like that.
I worked ALL summer on my parody project. I based it off the the Great Wave of Kanagawa. My dad got me a big piece of plywood and I spray painted it and then used pencil to sketch the base out and then acrylic paints to fill it all in. I'm really proud of it, but it isn't completely done yet. I wanted to draw a surfer in the biggest wave instead of the boats that are in the original piece but I haven't put it in yet.
Drawing and shading a sphere was one of the easier projects that we were assigned. In art 1, we practiced shading a lot using the foam and fruit and other stuff like that. I watched a few videos on youtube and watched other artists draw and shade the sphere and I felt like the videos really benefitted me. In one of the videos I watched I learned a lot more about refracted light, which will also be useful in the future.
